What we do:
Talk, Think, Plan. Repeat.

Our process starts with a conversation and getting you financially organized. We then develop a personalized financial plan that covers investments, retirement, estate planning, education planning, taxes, and insurance. We monitor and update your plan on a regular basis, and provide recommendations over time that keep you on track.

Investment planning

At GoalQuest, our philosophy takes a realistic approach. We believe:

Markets work. Competition ensures that it takes higher risk to seek higher returns. The result? Fair value over time.

Stocks have a higher expected return than bonds, and certain stocks have higher expected returns than others. Knowing which is which is key.

Diversification is the ultimate protection when things go wrong in one investment class or sector – which happens from time to time.

Fees erode your investment returns before you even earn a penny. Our investments don’t have sales loads and we don’t take commissions. We are fee-only and our compensation is designed to keep the focus on you.

Tax planning

For many people, making a lot of money on investments is their primary goal, and who can blame them? But if anything is true in life, it’s the fact that success breeds…well, taxes.

Tax planning involves far more than scrambling in April to defer income and boost deductions. If you want to minimize capital gains taxes, reduce your year-end tax bill, and give less of your estate to Uncle Sam, you should be aware of both the short- and long-term tax consequences of all your financial moves.

There are many ways to minimize your tax bite. At GoalQuest, we find the right balance to help you keep more of your own money.

Retirement planning

If you’re designing a new home, you probably ask a professional for help. You should treat your retirement the same way. And knowing how to structure your retirement portfolio is potentially a lot harder than designing a home. That’s why once you’ve mapped out your goals, you should bring in an expert to help you put together a financial plan or fine tune the one you already have. It should have specific recommendations, such as:

1. How much you need to save?
2. When you can retire?
3. How much you can spend in retirement?
4. How much investment risk you should take?
5. How much you can leave to others?

Estate planning

No matter your net worth, it's important to have a basic estate plan in place. Aunt Ruth’s flatware and Uncle Frank’s World War II diary may not seem like much now, but wait until you’re gone and everyone in the family decides that they want them. Now, imagine that same situation if you’ll be leaving a business, a bunch of investments and a vintage Rolls behind!

A basic estate plan includes wills, powers of attorney, living wills and sometimes, trusts. But estate planning isn't just about how you want your assets distributed after you die. It's also about deciding how much you want to give away while you're still alive. If you plan carefully - so you don't outlive your assets - your estate plan should prevent confusion, family disputes and significant tax problems down the road.

Business planning

You've dreamed about it and maybe even dabbled in it, but now you’re ready to start your own business. Is it the right idea? The right time? Is the money there? And the hardest question of all, are you the right person?

Since our strength is in business planning we’ll help you nail down everything from raising capital and operations to analyzing the competition, marketing and managing growth. We’ll help you draft a convincing argument for financing, through in-depth industry knowledge, market insight and qualitative analysis.

If you already have a plan, we’ll help you keep it current, to ensure everyone is keeping pace with your evolving vision and ideas.

Risk planning

Everyone needs life insurance, right? A whole life policy for yourself, some term for your spouse, variable universal for your dog. Maybe your insurance guy even sold you on a variable annuity for retirement.

Hold on a minute!

Let’s actually examine your insurance needs and see how much they’ll cost first. Maybe there are some better alternatives before you start signing on the dotted line. Maybe you even own policies that you don’t need, or that you’re paying way too much for. We’ll help you figure all of that out.
